近几年我国公路建设突飞猛进,其中大多数路面尤其是高等级公路路面为沥青路面。根据沥青路面的设计使用寿命,我国目前每年需要翻修的沥青路面已经超过了15%,沥青路面的废弃量已达到每年250万吨以上,并且这些数字还以每年15%的速度增长。所以合理的利用沥青再生技术已成为公路建设中的重要课题。

根据国外的经验,沥青路面材料的循环利用用于新建路面或是路面维修工程中,在技术上是可行的,经济上也是比较合理的,不会增加过多的成产成本,变废为宝有利于环境保护。与其他路面修复技术相比较:沥青路面再生还能在一定程度上减少交通中断的时间。

路面冷再生的种类很多,根据沥青再生和回收协会的定义,可分为“热厂拌再生、热现场再生、冷厂拌再生、冷现场再生、全厚度再生”。

沥青路面的现场冷再生是指利用旧路面材料经加工后重复利用,根据需要加入部分新骨料成新集料,按比例加入一定量的水泥和适量的水,在自然的环境下连续地完成材料的铣刨、破碎、添加、拌和、摊铺及压实成型,重新形成具有所需承能力结构层的一种工艺方法。
